Japan's GungHo, Finland's Supercell Team Up on Mobile Game

By Mayumi Negishi and Ian Sherr

Two of the hottest game makers from opposite sides of the globe are teaming up.

In the hit mobile game “Puzzle & Dragons” from Japan’s GungHo Online Entertainment Inc., players will soon stumble on a dungeon that features characters and themes from “Clash of Clans,” a battle and strategy game created by Finland’s Supercell Oy.

The pact between the companies is part of an effort they hope will win new users by highlighting one another’s games within their respective products.

Piggy-backing on another mobile game isn’t unusual in Japan, where characters from other titles often make cameo appearances in cross-promotional stunts. GungHo said its work with Supercell might be the first cross-border example of this type, however.

The agreement will include the “Clash of Clans” dungeon theme in GungHo’s game, while a banner illustrated by “Puzzle & Dragons” characters will appear in Supercell’s game for about two weeks, the companies said.
